Francisco de Asís Tárrega Eixea (1852–1909) was a Spanish composer and classical guitarist. As a child, he fell into an irrigation canal and injured his eyes, which left him with impaired vision for the rest of his life. He studied at the Madrid Conservatory and composed numerous pieces which remain immensely popular. The inspiration and exact date of composition for Lágrima (English: "tear") is unknown, but it is generally believed to have been written around around 1881-1882, possibly while Tárrega was touring and homesick.
