The Fire and The Sun was written for and dedicated to Greek guitarist Antonis Liopiris. His surname — Liopiris — translates literally as "the fire of the sun" or "the heat of the sun," and so became the title.
Michalis Andronikou is a composer and musicologist based in Calgary, AB. He holds a PhD in composition from the University of Calgary and degrees in musicology from the University of Athens. He has Diplomas in Classical Guitar and Clarinet from Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music, and in Byzantine Music from the Argyroupolis Municipal Conservatory. His scores are published by Palliser Music Publishing, Balkanota, Da Vinci Edition, Trübcher Music Editions, and Alea Publishing & Recording. He is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and a member of the Canadian League of Composers.
