Tarantelle is a spirited guitar work by Austrian composer and guitarist Johann Kaspar Mertz. Written in the quick 6/8 rhythm of the southern Italian dance, it shows Mertz’s mix of melody and technical command. Influenced by Romantic piano composers such as Chopin and Liszt, Mertz adapted their harmonic and expressive style for the guitar. Tarantelle highlights his rhythmic energy, clear phrasing, and distinctive Romantic voice.
