Danza Desperata (composed in 2021) is a dance written in reaction to desperate times and an exploration of the healing power of music. The meditative rhythm of the piece is intended to energize the spirit of the audience against feelings of despair.
Michalis Andronikou is a composer and musicologist based in Calgary, AB. He holds a PhD in composition from the University of Calgary and degrees in musicology from the University of Athens. He has Diplomas in Classical Guitar and Clarinet from Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music, and in Byzantine Music from the Argyroupolis Municipal Conservatory. His scores are published by Palliser Music Publishing, Balkanota, Da Vinci Edition, Trübcher Music Editions, and Alea Publishing & Recording. He is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and a member of the Canadian League of Composers.
